Mobile phones have become so expensive these days, that many mobile carriers are now checking a person’s credit score before approving an application. If you have a poor credit rating, this could mean you will be denied the mobile phone and plan you were hoping to get. This is frustrating, especially in a world where it seems everyone has a mobile phone and so much is accomplished each day on these devices. Don’t despair though, there are still many ways for you to get a mobile phone while having a bad credit score. The following is some advice to help you out.

  1. Get A Less Expensive Plan – One of the reasons you may have been denied is because you simply wanted too extravagant of a plan. While it may be nice to have all the bells and whistles on your device and in your plan, you need to think more realistically. Aim for a plan that has a more basic smartphone, and one that has a smaller data limit. If you can limit the amount of risk the mobile carrier is taking by approving your application, you increase your chances of getting a yes.
  2. Get A ‘No Credit Check’ Phone – There are many companies out there that will not check your credit score when determining if you are eligible for a mobile plan. While this may sound great, we should offer a word of caution. Companies that go this route typically can do so because they over charge for their phones and for their plans. You should consider going this route if you have the money to spend on a plan, but not the credit score to back it up.
  3. Sim Only Deals – Your third option is to get what is called a Sim Only contract. Normally when you sign up for a mobile plan, you are signing up for access to the carriers network, along with purchasing a phone to use. With a Sim Only contract, you are only getting the access, not the phone. On this type of plan you provide your own mobile device, and only pay the mobile company to use their network. This is a great option if you have an old mobile device that you would like to keep using, or if you found a phone elsewhere that you can purchase at a less expensive price. There are many places online that you can purchase mobile phones at a discount, either because they are used or because they are an outdated model. The phones work just fine, but you don’t have to pay the full price. You can use one of these phones with a Sim Only deal to save yourself a lot of money, and to increase your chances of being approved for the contract. Because the mobile carrier doesn’t have to provide you with a device, they are taking on less risk.

women-getting-a-mobile-phone-with-bad-credit As we said, these are just a few tips to help get you started. Just because you have a poor credit score, does not mean you can’t get a phone. Look around at your different options and see which one works for you. With a little persistence and some research, you should be able to find something that suits your circumstances.
